The Sincil School is proud to announce that in July 2009 the school was awarded Specialist Sport College Status. The Sincil School only opened in 2006 and after the first year of opening received a ‘good’ across the board in an Ofsted inspection (May 2007). Since this time the school has continued to develop and flourish. The school has found that outdoor educational and sports is a great motivator to the pupils. This aspect of the curriculum supports the pupil’s personal and social development as well as addressing some of their behaviour problems.
The awarding of specialist schools status as a sports college, with science a second specialism is a fantastic achievement. The staff team, especially the PE and Outdoor education department, has worked extremely hard in obtaining this accolade. The school submitted the bid in May and received confirmation in July that the school had been successful. This will provide the school with additional funding so as to improve the teaching and learning and raise attainment not only at the Sincil School but also in the five local partner schools in Lincoln and the wider community. The other schools involved in the project partnership are, Robert Pattinson High School, Bishop King Primary, Ermine Primary, Birchwood Juniors, Monks abbey and Fortuna Primary. The Sincil School will support partner schools in improving attainment and behaviour mainly in PE but also other curriculum areas. The Sincil School will also receive some funding for a capital project which is designed to improve the facilities on offer to the pupils and community projects. These are exciting times for the Sincil School and their partner schools.
The Sincil School recognises the support and inspiration provided by engage in their future over the last three years. Rob Parkin , Headteacher and Deputy Chris Almond have attended the Eastern region engage in their future Conferences over the past four years. This provided them with the inspiration to go ahead and apply for a specialism. The networking and speakers at the engage in their future conferences gave the leadership team from the Sincil School an enthusiasm which in turn provided the vision for the school to move forward. Rob and Chris both recognise the support provided by engage in their future at these events and would like to thank Tristan Williams for his inspirational and enlightening talk three years ago. ‘Tristan’s lecture on achieving specialist sports status at Springfields School gave us the encouragement to move the Sincil School forward. Seeing what could be achieved and how to begin the process all started with that presentation’.
Rob Parkin stated that engage in their future had been a tremendous support for him in his first SEBD headship and wished to thank Jon Lees and other members for their contribution to the development of the Sincil School over the last three years.
